I've never understood the way Mac OS X handles file type associations and icons. I can have a folder with 10 jpegs where 7 of them have the Preview application icon, one has a thumbnail icon and two have the generic "no application" icon. Granted, the thumbnail icons makes sense if the image has a thumbnail, but what's up with the generic icon? Double-clicking on the icons for the most part opens Preview, but in some cases opens Photoshop. This happens even though I've selected one of the images, hit command + i, selected Preview under "Open with" and clicked "Change all".
Is it just me or is this confusing and inconsistent? If I tell OS X to open all jpegs in Preview, why doesn't it? And why does "Change all" not update the icons?
